Making Aviva a better place to work

Aviva’s people consider their wellbeing as important to them and wanted support from their organisation in achieving work-life balance, tackling stress, and managing their finances.

The importance of wellbeing

As a leading health and protection business, it was important to use that expertise and their great products to support their own people. Aviva employees have a genuine commitment to making the company a better place to work, so, with the increasing focus on wellness in business and the media, it was time to harness that and introduce a wellbeing programme of their own.

A four-pronged approach to wellbeing

We rolled out Wellbeing@Aviva, a suite of products, advice and support to help people in the business stay healthy, and to look after them when they fall sick. We brought Wellbeing@Aviva to life using a heart visual to symbolise personal wellbeing, with each of Aviva’s four key wellbeing pillars contained within it: mental health, physical health, financial health and social/community wellbeing.

Health Heroes

Free health checks, mindfulness sessions, healthy eating advice and mental health support are just some of the things Aviva employees can take advantage of. Visual elements such as a microsite and some Health Heroes – people keen to make a difference with employee wellbeing – helped to introduce the wellbeing programme and create excitement amongst employees about it.

Opening up conversations

Wellbeing@Aviva has been well-received with many colleagues taking advantage of the new programme. Feedback has been positive and the team feel as though they’ve tapped into something special. Conversations around mental health have started as a result of the focus on wellbeing, with people seeking help for the first time. Having a global reach has allowed Aviva to use insights and learnings from across countries to build on the programme and they will be adding to it as it grows and evolves.
