Aldi and NatWest Group take home the trophies
We’re buzzing today at McCann Synergy as we bask in the glory of not one, but two wins at the IoIC Awards 2020! But it’s not all about us, we’re sharing our celebrations with two fantastic clients:
💥 Innovative use of media with NatWest Group
💥 Best channel for a remote audience with ALDI
So what was the brilliant work behind these awards? Here’s a sneak peek!
NatWest Group – Mission Possible
Dum dum dah dah dum dum dah dah…
How do you make regulatory change exciting?
With regulatory changes coming down the line on customer authentication, we worked with our partners at NatWest Group to set their colleagues a fun and energetic mission – should they choose to accept it. Mission Possible was a virtual reality (VR) game that created awareness, understanding and action. The game had colleagues competing to collect customer mobile numbers, helping them to unlock their banking app, all while dodging ‘customer frustrations’.
It was a fantastic project to be part of, and very worthy of its award for ‘Innovative use of media’.

The team at NatWest Group loved playing this bespoke VR game.
Aldi – Christmas Advent Calendar
Getting a busy team engaged and excited about excellent customer service during the Christmas rush is no mean feat, but that was the challenge set by Aldi’s internal comms team.
We worked together to create the MyALDI Christmas Advent Calendar on the MyALDI app. Each day offered a different competition and a new opportunity to engage with the app and promote their Christmas products, with participation leading to a Christmas Eve grand prize draw. The campaign drew huge engagement, with colleagues declaring:
I’ve ditched my chocolate advent calendar this Christmas! I’m 100% in for the Aldi Xmas calendar
I don’t care if I win or not, I’m just happy that Aldi does this for us

Aldi’s Christmas Advent Calendar featured Kevin the Carrot – a very popular colleague!
Is engaging frontline workers in your business a challenge? Or, are your remote workers hard to reach?
