From strategy, to action, to impact, we unleash the power of your people to drive…
Last Friday Sam Andrews attended the Chartered Institute of marketing’s Internal Communications course in London.
It was a great event and helps Synergy to make sure that we are offering advice to our clients that is current and also to see what challenges other organisations face. The course was run by Tony Lindley who has a wealth of experience across the industry and has run workshops for companies such as Shell, Sainsbury’s, Microsoft, Centrica and the Diamond Trading Company (formerly de Beers) to name a few. Delegates came from across the UK & Europe and from a range of sectors ranging from healthcare, education and the policeforce.
The structure of the day focused around an eight step plan for developing effective communications:
- Analyse your organisation
- Set out your internal comms objectives- make them SMART!
- Analyse your audiences
- Develop key messages and themes
- What barriers are you likely to face?
- Match comms vehicles and media to your objectives
- Set and follow an action plan
- Measure the outcome
Case studies throughout the day included examples from Tesco, The Building Societies Association (BSA) and Virgin Trains.
The course runs several times a year and is really useful for those looking for an introduction to the subject and to get some background on the theory behind Internal Communications.
